Fine Sponsors of the North American Eagle™
Culminating a very busy prior week, today’s work session finished up the final remaining tasks needed before leaving for our next test session. On hand today were, and throughout the week; Dave Selby, Steve Wallace, Steve Rima, Les Holm, Omar Chramosta, Steve Green, Chris Greene, Brandyn Bayes, Bernard McVay, Keith Zanghi and Ed Shadle.
Brandyn applies LizardSkin® to the new GSE Ladder
Chris Greene welds the new GSE Ladder
This past week has seen a lot of work come together on the North American Eagle™ as we finish final preparations for our upcoming test session. Les Holm saw a need for a safe way to get on top of the car for fueling and removing panels; so he designed a Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Ladder. The unit straddles the back of the Eagle and sits firmly on the ground. This week we finished welding and applied some safety yellow paint.
Dave Selby fires up the start cart while Ed puts in his ear plugs
During the week Dave Selby stopped by the hanger and fired up the turbine powered M32-60B American Valley Aviation start cart. He wasn’t happy with the results, so he made some adjustments that brought the ground power unit up to specs.
Steve Wallace running National Instruments LabVIEW
Steve Wallace has been showing up late for home all week as he dropped by the hanger to finish up some programming. LabVIEW is the National Instruments software that runs our CompactDAQ 9188 XT data aquisition system. Safety is at the forefront of everything we do and ensuring the car is running within the design parameters, we use the cDAQ platform to record vibration and dynamic pressure around the vehicle. We then take those actuals and compare them with our computational models. From this we can make changes to the car to make it run faster and safer.
Les Holm puts finishing touches on the magnetic brake fairings
Les Holm has been spending a lot of time with Keith Zanghi buidling the rear axle fairings. Today Les and Chris finished up installing the water cooling lines to the magnetic brakes and Keith painted the rear fairings and vertical struts. With more than a hundred nutplates, the complicated fairing system can be put together in about 5 minutes. We can’t wait to see all of the components together for the first time, and all painted up! This monday the team will meet to load the Eagle into the LevX® Transporter.
