In this Update: Tenting indoors; A cart for fairings; Machinist at work; Getting ready for SEMA 2014
Today’s Featured Sponsors
Reporting in this Saturday: Les Holm, Von Armstrong, Ed Shadle, Andrew Kirk and his brother, Morgan, Jason and Don Mitchell, Lars Pedersen, Keith Zanghi, Chris Greene, Steve and Libby Wallace, John Drury, Jon Higley, Sean Rodestvedt, Corey Dawson and his son Max.
We’re always glad to see Russ Zanghi visit the shop. Keith just seems to keep his act together a bit better when dad is around. Russ immediately claimed elder rights among those present, usurping Von. Seasoned citizens are, generally speaking, possessive of their hard earned positions. Russ let it be known that he has octogenerian status. Von…..3 weeks and 3 days to go….and will never catch up.

Today was sort of like camping out for Keith, except it was in an inside tent. He has been spending a lot of hours in the makeshift enclosure, complete with protective mask and exhaust duct. Layers of old paint are being sanded down on the Eagle, preparing for a new look on the Eagle’s head. Eddie Harris is standing by, ready to apply his artistic talents when the surfaces are right. Time is rapidy approaching for the loadup and trip to Las Vegas for the SEMA convention display. Eddie will have our big bird looking proud in time for the loadup.

A loading and transport cart had to be modified for proper fit of some of the rear axle fairings. Jason and Les had a lot of time devoted to that task today. Our in house machinist, Lars, spends time out of this house and in his home workshop as of late; machining parts for the mid wheel bearings, new jack points on the rear axle, and some spare hardware for the parachute lines deployment.
|Morgan Kirk||Andrew Kirk|
Andrew and Morgan worked on some repainting of the nose wheel cart and helping Keith with some sanding. Ed found some starting issues with the communication van and with the loading crane in the transport trailer.

We continued to have a roundtable briefing and discussion on the trip to SEMA. It is not like taking your father’s Oldsmobile on a drive around the block. Our car is 56 feet long, 6+tons, semi trailer transported, fuel thirsty, and requires some strong backs to load and unload, volunteers to take vacation time and lodging for them, and convention requirement hoops to jump through. It is not for the faint of heart, this quest for setting new world landspeed records. We hope to display our car, gain new followers and sponsorship, and keep our focus on the the road to the record books.
