Today a lot of work on the front steering. The team removed the steering control valve and got it ready to be be shipped to Eaton Hydraulics.
Dave Martinson put in a great effort to become the 2015 Velvet Hammer Award recipient. The annual award is given to someone on the team who makes a mistake and doesn’t cripple or kill himself. Dave was cutting an aluminum tank in half with an abrasive saw when the blade broke. The resulting debris went flying with a large piece embedding itself through the sheetrock and into the 2×6 stud behind it. Needless to say the team had to give Dave a hard time and document the permanent display. It will become a regular addition to our shop tours.
Several of the team members worked on the electrical generator for the trailer. It has been sitting for a number of years and each week team members take turns to see who can get it started.
In spite of Dave’s near miss, he was able to get the tank welded. Lars began designing the neck and valve components. He will machine those during the week and bring them to the hangar next week for Dave to weld.
