On Monday Keith stopped in to say hello to long time sponsor Victor Sloan of Victor Aviation.   The wheels on the North American Eagle® were cryogenic treated at Victor Aviation using their patented processes.  The example was documented as a case study in the book Low Temperature Materials and Mechanisms by Yoseph Bar-Cohen.  Victor Aviation is headquartered in Palo Alto, California.

Christoffer Rudquist

During Tuesday of this week, photographer Christoffer Rudquist spent the day in the shop with Ed, Les, Von and Lars.  He captured the Eagle with dozens of pictures from every angle; making up a selection for an upcoming Qatar Oryx Magazine article.  We will let you know when the article is published.

Work today began with taking off the nose cone and moving the car forward to provide access to the rear.  Parachute fairings were removed prior to later switching out rear axles.

The two Steves backed up some onboard computer data for the steering system.

David Martinson did some welding work, using the table he built and materials from our friends at Central Welding Supply.

Keith removed and replaced some new sponsor decals from the fuselage.

Eric Wittler tests new Playa Penetrometer™

Eric Wittler has been building two new Playa Penetrometer™ used for checking the hardness of lakebeds.   Originally developed by Steve Wallace, the Playa Penetrometer™ give us an calibrated hardness of the lakebed hardness.  We have virtually tested every lakebed in the United States over six miles long and know before bringing the car out if it will support the speed runs of the North American Eagle® Eric will be doing a functional test in the desert soon.   We look forward to next week when Eric will be in Seattle sharing his bottle of Grande Absente!
