Good day today as : Les Holm, Andrew Kirk, Chris Greene, Rich Pengelley, Omar Chramosta, Steve Rima, Keith Zanghi and Ed Shadle prepare the North American Eagle™ for a number of appearances; the biggest one being our test runs this October.
Upper Vertical Mount Fairing
Les spent most of the day locating and attaching the two upper vertical mounts fairings. Once those are in place we will fit the aerodynamic surfaces on the upper strut, followed by the forward struts. Most of the time is spent making sure we can assemble everthing in the field. Next week we should have the verticals complete.
Steve Rima worked on the 28 v DC transformer, while Rich was busy repairing a couple of the nut plates which were damaged during last year’s test session. Chris and Andrew installed new front axle bolts and got a lesson in safety wiring…a technique that gets better only with practice.
Ed was a little late Saturday because he was giving free airplane rides at the EAA Young Eagles event at Thun Field. Young Eagles gives young girls and boys their first exposure to flying; in hopes of inspiring the kids to become part of the aviation world.
Chris Greene’s Graduation Party Fly In
Chris and his family and friends came to Spanaway Airport on Sunday, ready to party! Chris arrived in his work in progress, a vintage VW, complete with board and cooler strapped on top. His parents soon followed with the grill and all the fixings for a great barbecue.
Planes, brains, and a some what of an automobile. Ed and John Drury had their planes all gassed and ready to take Chris and some friends up into the wild blue yonder. It was a beautiful day for flying and for enjoying a really good array of party foods, hot dogs, and burgers.
Wally Tice and Ed Shadle
When Chris Greene’s parents wanted to give their son a graduation party that he would remember, they approached Ed and John Drury about having a good old fashion barbecue with a twist…taking guests up for airplane rides!
