On a beautiful summer day in the Pacific Northwest, Brandyn Bayes, Omar Chramosta, John Winchester, John Drury, Rich Pengelley, Steve Rima, Steve Wallace, Les Holm, Keith Zanghi and Ed Shadle met to continue our quest for the World Land Speed Record.

It was a busy past week at the North American Eagle™ hanger, as Ed and Les both made a couple of all day appearances.  The efforts don’t go unnoticed as considerable progress was made since the previous week.

Much thanks goes to one of our sponsors that consists of a family of welding related companies.  Central Welding Supply; their on line group,; the retail outlets of Pacific Welding Supply; and gases from Xpress Cryogenics provide the Lincoln Welders and consumables for the project; including a whole line of abrasives.  For metal fabrication work, they are a sole source supplier of everything you will need.

Les Holm led up his version of Jessi Comb’s All Girl Garage,  entitled All Guys Garage!  Could someone reading this send a text message to Les’ wife , explaining why he has gone up missing!  For most of the week Les has been camped out at the Shady Acres, taking flat sheets of metal and turning them into aerodyamic surfaces.

To test whether or not there was a problem with the start cart, the guys pulled the  Eagle forward in the hangar and dry started the engine.  We recorded the entire process so that you can see what we did.  You can watch the video by clicking below or by visiting our YouTube Page.  No garages were harmed in the making of this video!

Ed, Steve Rima, and Steve Wallace had their heads behind thier oscilloscopes and voltage meters all day; testing various electrical componets in preparation for our upcoming test session in October.  At one point they plugged in the AVA M32-60B Start cart and motored up power to the Eagle.

With the landlord out of town, Keith and Les were up until midnight, welding, drilling, and plasma cutting metal and  fitting  the pieces together in a method that can be easily broken down in the field. Using their combined 60+ years of AOG (Aircraft On the Ground) and Aircraft tooling and fabrication experience, it took a while to precisely align the chord line of all the new aerodynamic surfaces.  Vistors attending the National Instruments Week in Austin TX next month will be the first to see the all the new hardware.

John Drury moved from the front of the Eagle this week to the undercarriage of the Race Car Transporter; replacing a leaking brake can, and doing some preventative maintenance on the trailer’s rear suspension system.
