This day’s work party: Les Holm, Steve Rima, Von Armstrong, Lars Pedersen, Ed Shadle, Keith Zanghi, Interns Jackson Kinney and Britney Freer, Chris Greene, Steve Wallace, Omar Chramosta.
Very special guest today was Jason Mitchell’s daughter Kaylynn. She had some fun with her cousin Les!
Keith’s dad, Russ, stopped by for a visit and stayed for lunch break, special ordering his hot dog to be burnt. As if he needed to special order. They often come out that way without the request.
Steve Rima got an early start this morning, continuing to run wires for some new sensors. Les spent most of the day inspecting existing wiring, improving some of the ways they were bundled, and generally spiffing up and adding wear protrection to lines that pass through the bulkhead between the cockpit and the instrumentation compartment. Keith and Chris also had hands on. Steve Wallace came in later and finished up the task of installing new load sensors and power supplies.
Ed worked on the new panel covering that replaces the original, which was ventilated and allowed too much desert dirt to get into the fuselage interior. New and different fasteners also had to be fashioned and new holes drilled.
Chris introduced Lars to the fine art of parachute packing. Chris and Jason packed one chute last week and Lars stepped in to help this week. They are looking at some different ways of using the hydraulic press to achieve a tighter pack. Lars also did some more thread chasing on the hydraulic distribution block and has some ideas for modifying the front wheel steering box.
Jackson and Britney finished up some needed maintenance today. Britney completed the wheel polishing and block painting; then went outside to join Jackson who spent his day doing a fine exterior wash job on the semi tractor. Britney cleaned the inside cab.
