In This Update: Settling In; Front Wheel Installed; Magnetic Brakes Hydraulics; Rear Belly Compartment Door, Fall Speed Runs Briefing
Today’s Featured Sponsors
Present for this Saturday work party: Ed Shadle, Les Holm, Steve Wallace, Von Armstrong, Lars Pederson, Jason Mitchell, Keith Zanghi, Corey Dawson, Dave Selby, Jon Higley, Brandyn Bayes, Rob Martinson, Rich Pengelly, Bernard McVay, Cam Shadle, John Drury
Visitors today included Steve’s aunt and uncle, who are up from the Sacramento area. Tom and Nell Wallce are seeing some of our beautiful Northwest sights and the weather couldn’t be better.
Jerry Lamb and his brother-in-law, Mike Petersen drove over from Port Angeles. Jerry is our good friend and sponsor, and the founder and CEO of LEVX®; a Magna-Force technology that designed the unique, no contact, magnetic braking system for our 13,000 pound jet car. The system has proven to be a vital link in bringing the car to a stop after numerous high speed runs.
Team NAE is getting used to our new headquarters building in Parkland, Washington. Located just down the hill from the busy intersection of Pacific Avenue and 112th St. off of “C” Street, we are close to some major shopping.
We are still moving things around and getting organized. Today some new white boards went up and grind wheels, vises, drills, and other tools were attached to work benchs. Ed brought our small jet engine out of storage at Spanaway Airport. The fork lift made easy the task of getting it off the trailer and located inside the building.
Today’s tasks included raising the car to maximum height in order to reinstall the front wheel to the steering box. Steve put in place a new load sensor prior to the wheel installation. A little more work is needed to install some shims that will true out the wheel alignment.
|Ken Broyles and Cam Shadle have been rebuilding the engine door that was re-installed today|
Cam and Jason were busy putting the finishing touches on reattaching the rear fuselage belly door. Keith and Les mapped out the process for installing our soon to be delivered new rear wheel brake rotors and getting all the hydraulic lines back in operating condition and the system pressured checked. Brandyn reviewed our on going website improvements and issues.
Today, we had a briefing. Our fall speed runs are fast approaching. In less than a month we will be loading up and going back to Alvord for some record setting runs. As usual, the project is long on intentions and short on funding. It is an expensive undertaking to transport numerous vehicles and equipment, set up operations in a remote desert location, and support all of our all- volunteer team members. They give up vacation time and family time in order to unite in this effort to set and exceed some existing land speed records. We’re asking for help……money…..donations…….anything that will help us achieve our goal. Visit our website, “Landspeed.com”. Call or write Ed Shadle. We really do need your support.
