This is not the first time the North American Eagle™ has been featured in a nomination for an award. In 2014 Jessi Comb’s show, The LIST: Breaking a Land Speed Record, won the Webby Award for the category: Online Film and Video: Travel & Adventure. The Webby is like the Oscar, Emmy, and Tony Awards for the internet. In 2004, The Discovery Channel Show, Megabuilders – World’s Fastest Wheels featured an entire episode about the project. That show was re-run well over 200 times in the US Market!
A lot of science goes into breaking the world land speed record. Above is a slide depicting the antenna placement plan, being developed by Steve Wallace for our next test runs
Laser Mount Bracket Machining
Completed Front Wheel Laser Alignment Tool
This past week Lars Pedersen has been busy in his machine shop building details for the new steering system. First he had to make a mount to hold the laser for attaching to the front wheel. It will be used to determine the exact direction and set wheel alignment. The second item was a new wheel positioner to be mounted on the car to hold the magnetic pick up. Everything will be installed this weekend.

It was a busy day in the hangar this weekend. The team first removed the front wheel assembly so that we could gain access to our Wilwood Brake. We need to replace the o-rings for the caliper pistons. They should arrive next week and we’ll reassemble it next weekend. Ed finished the parachute deployment battery system. A new, heavier duty battery will ensure positive engagement. Les and Lars installed the magnetic positioner that is used in the new steering system. The fly by wire steering replaces our heavily troublesome hydraulic system. Keith was working on a new belly pan between the two mid-wheels. Previous openings for suspension travel are not needed. The new pan will seal them completely, eliminating the buildup of dirt in the wheel wells.
This Thursday, Lance Lambert from the Seattle Times, will be at the hangar conducting interviews for a new story he is writing.
Jet Blast from The Past
Put Out to Pasture
Our dream was to take the above aircraft and turn it into the next world land speed record. You have to have good visualization skills to see beyond its current state and imagine the future state!
