NAE™ Project:
Update Archives

eptember 16, 1997

Ladies & Gentlemen:

As time grows near for the North American Eagle™ (NAE) to travel to Edwards AFB for its first test runs on the legendary Rogers Dry Lake, we have many many details to work out. It appears that October 11-13 will be the date of our first test runs (unless the US Air Force changes its mind). We will be on display during the following weekend activities at the Edwards AFB 50th Anniversary of Breaking the Sound Barrier so please stop buy if you want to visit with us or watch the Blackbird do a Mach 3 pass or see many exotic aircraft. The highlight of the airshow will be General Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier.

For the past year I've been trying to find a celebrity to ride in the back seat of the NAE. Guess what! Jay Leno will be taking a ride in the NAE™. We will be conducting the ride with the cooperation of the Tonight Show. More details will be forthcoming as I work out the terms and conditions with the producer. This might be a good time for a sponsor to contact us and get a few minutes of air time on a very popular show. If anyone out there has a contact, please let me know.

On Saturday Sept. 13, Ron Norman and I spent the day with Thrust SSC on the Black Rock Desert. What a wonderful group of people. We watched Andy Green make a 500+ pass. Nice and smooth! The camp is well organized and well equipped. Richard greeted us like we were old friends and later on Pete (their project manager) bought a couple rounds at the Black Rock Tavern.

While at the Reno Air Races we spent some time with Frank Gurco of Champion Spark Plugs. Champion provided the igniters for our North American Eagle™. We also met with Frank Kinnell, the president of the Reno Air Races to discuss the possiblities of the NAE™ appearing and performing for the 1998 Reno Air Races.

Being short of funds is a constant battle for our team. We do have several sponsors providing badly needed services and parts for the NAE. We still need revenue! If there are racing enthusiasts out there who would like to donate to the North American Eagle™ project, please send it to North American Eagle 1817 208th St. East. Spanaway, WA. 98387. We will place you name in our "team member" key button list if you like. You can also purchase a shirt from us through Dougs Racing Stables in Tacoma, Wa. Their number is (800) 861-5446, or through Security Race Products, Renton, WA at (206) 226-1586.

This weekend will be our last test run on asphalt. We will be running on the tiny 5000 ft runway at the Toledo Airport. The airport is acturally 5 miles East of exit 63 of interstate highway I-5, North of Portland, OR.

Sincerely,

Edward J. Shadle, Project Manager
