NAE™ Project:
Update

September 8, 2007

Ladies & Gentlemen:

During the previous week, Bernard McVay has been working at his business in Bothell, WA to finish the team fire truck. Also, our newest support member, Eric Helpenstell spent the past week in Nevada as one of the many search teams looking for missing adventurer Steve Fossett. Eric sent us these images below.

Ed Shadle has spent a lot of time handling the logisitcs of getting the high-speed precision ceramic bearings ordered for the new wheels' hubs.

Attending today's work party were Ed Shadle, Keith Zanghi, Jon Higley, Steve Wallace, Rex Walter, Bill Eckberg, Tim Finley & Meeko, Von Armstrong, Rich & Tom Pengelley, Eric Hempelstell, and Sam Yellowbird.

Ed chats w/ visiting Colonel

Our special guest who visited today was a former pilot of WWII, the Korean conflict, and the Vietnam conflict. A retired Colonel of the Air Force, he flew into Spanaway Airport just to come to the hangar and see what we were up to.

Ed and Keith did a lot of work on hydraulic system detail work that needed finishing up. At the same time, Steve, Tim and Ed also worked on getting the new tray, which holds the four batteries and our new UPS unit donated by Falcon® Electric, installed into the rear electronics bay. Steve, our data acquisition scientist, and Rex, our team aerodynamicist, spent time determining where to place pressure sensors on the car.

With the new steering box, valve and its suspension in place, the team also installed the aircraft tire back onto the suspension for moving purposes.

The remainder of this month will be devoted to completing tasks critical to preparing for another test session in the future.
