NAE™ Project: Update Archives September 24, 2005 Ladies & Gentlemen: Present at today's work party were Ed Shadle, Keith Zanghi, Jon Higley, Bill Eckberg, Ed Drumheller II, Bernard McVay, Steve & Libby Wallace, Tim Finley, Von Armstrong, John Zambrano, Dave Selby, Omar Charmosta and John Drury. As usual, a multitude of tasks were being worked on today; electronics, and hydraulics were the two major areas, but modifications were also being made to the trailer ramps and rear wheel stands. Visitor to the NAE™ shop for the first time was one of our newer sponsors of the project - Tim Ennis, Pres. & CEO of MotoCam®. He was given the grand tour and met all the team members present. Motocam provides mini-racing cameras and recording equipment that enables capturing of views one normally wouldn't see during an event. The NAE™ will have several of Motocam's units mounted at key locations so that footage can be viewed after test runs to monitor functions of various equipment around the 56 ft. long "beast". Guest workers on the NAE™ today were Scott Robertson and Dave Wheelen from Rapp Hydema U.S. Inc. of Seattle. These men are experts in hydraulics and helped Bill Eckberg continue progress on getting fittings and valves installed in place where needed. Johann Sigurjonsson graciously provided these men to help expidite the installation process, and for this, the team is very grateful to him. Ed Shadle worked on placing the batteries into their new separate compartment and hooked up the connecting cables for the 24 volt back-up electrical system. He also connected the power to the hydraulic reservior pump and grounded the pump motor in its separate compartment; the former mid-body fuel cell between the two air intakes. Bill and Dave bent tubing while Keith clamped down tubing in the engine bay. Tim Finley ran wiring from one side of the engine to the other where the new bracket holding an array of cannon plugs are now mounted. Steve & Libby Wallace continued working through the labeling of channels on the software that will be collecting data from the Larson Davis (a PCB Peizotronics company) hardware being used on the car during test runs. Bernard McVay, Jon Higley, John Zambrano and Von Armstrong worked on modifying the trailer ramps and rear axle pads inside the trailer. This was necessary with the newly modified rear travel axle fabricated by Bernard, of McVay's Mobile Welding, another sponsor of our project. John Zambrano's sons, Jordon and Jacob, were with him today and they enjoyed watching all the activity around the shop. Ed Drumheller II was working on a few details for the parachutes and discussed with Bernard McVay the completion specifics of the hydraulic press that will be needed to pack chutes in the future. We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site. Interested in helping us make history and bring the record back to North America? Here's how!
