NAE™ Project: Update Archives October 28, 1998 Ladies and Gentlemen: Our October update is a little overdue but that is because we have been so busy doing catch up on correspondence and rethinking our website pages. We have a lot of things in transition which will be announced when they are finalized. We received the environmental impact statement from the Bureau of Land Management on the Black Rock Desert. It seems that most of the concern is focused on the Burning Man Event as being the most mentioned issue. They have marked out the historic trails and other areas that the BLM wants to maintain minimal impact to. It appears that any land speed record attempts will first be expected to put up $30,000. just to set foot on the place. That makes one think twice about setting up an event unless you have your program well organized and funded. The NAE team is still maintaining our relationship with the USAF and would rather run at Edwards AFB when the time comes. Keith and I met with some folks at Massachusetts Institute of Technology to discuss whether or not they would be interested in assisting us in design work and using the Supersonic Wind Tunnel to verify the design. We're still in the discussion stages so we have no real commitment from MIT as of yet. If there are any other Institutions of higher learning out there who would be interested in assisting us we are certainly willing to listen. That's all the news for October, as soon as a few more things roll out, we'll update the web site.......Ed Shadle We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site. Interested in helping us make history and bring the record back to North America? Here's how!
