NAE™ Project: Update Ladies & Gentlemen: Earlier last week several things got done in preparation for our appearance at the Aerospace Testing Expo in Anaheim next month. Scott Robertson and Ed Shadle worked on the NAE hydraulics some more Wednesday. Only a few more things need to be done to tidy up and it will be ready for a pressure and functional test. For Steve Wallace Sunday, Monday, Wed. evening, were spent tracing data channels (40 of 70) and resolving bad connections, noisy shields, and mixed-up channels. He completely replaced the interconnect to one of the DSS units with a commercially-built 12 channel BNC cable harness. The wires servicing the Mag. Brake Temp. system are traced, sorted and labled. 12VDC to the sensors is supplied from the DAQ 12 battery. The signal wires need to be hooked-up to the display units. The output signal from the display units are routed to the DAQ system (but output from the display units must be configured). Thursday, Scott Robertson and Ed Shadle were at the hangar, finishing up the hydraulic lines. The wheel and tire were picked up from Superior Tire in Longview. -------------------------------------------------- October 28, 2006 Present at today's work party were Ed Shadle, Keith Zanghi, Jon Higley, Bill Eckberg, Russell Garlow, Rich Pengelley, Tim Finley, Von Armstrong, Bernard McVay, Steve & Libby Wallace, Sean Rondestvedt, Ed Drumheller II and his wife Barbara, and John Winchester. While Steve Wallace continued his work on chasing down sensor channels for the data acquisition system, among several other things, Tim Finley worked on improvements to electrical connections for instruments and switches in the cockpit. Ed Shadle and Bill Eckberg tidied up hydraulic line issues while Jon Higley took on the polishing of the transport trailer's stripes. Bernard McVay was busy rewelding the mid-axle, while Rich Pengelley and Von Armstrong remounted the wheel that had been balanced and shaved last week onto the rear axle. Bernard will take the mid-axle to Powder Coating, Inc. next week for getting "spiffed" up to look the same as the beautifully redone running suspension beams that they did recently. The NAE's™ fuel bladder was also emptied of its fuel to meet convention center requirements for being on display. The brake lines for the rear axle were bled as well. Russell Garlow did more work on the repaint job of the eagle's feathers on the left side, while John Winchester and Ed Drumheller II discussed how the chutes would be loaded into their bags. Just before calling it a day, the windshield was placed back on the cockpit and bolted down. Next week the second trailer which holds the team's mobile machine shop will have to be retrieved from Abbotsford, BC. Team driver John Drury will be using the LEV-X® tractor to bring it down south so it can be tranported by our sponsor NorWest Transport to El Mirage for our test session. We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site. Interested in helping us make history and bring the record back to North America? Here's how!
