NAE™ Project:
Update

November 12, 2007

Ladies & Gentlemen:

We are starting a new series of updates that highlights several of our sponsors that provided extensive resources for us to make our test session number # 7 at the Black Rock Desert.  In this update we are going to introduce you to PCB Piezotronics and how their products and engineering resources provides solutions for Team North American Eagle™.

Anaheim '06 Exhibit

PCB Piezotronics and their group of companies (Including the Modal Shop) provide the very crucial data acquisition system for the Eagle.  We can’t tell you how much information is being gathered by today’s Top Fuel Dragsters, Indy Car or Formula 1 Teams, but we can tell you we would be surprised if the number exceeds the 3.2 million measurements that occur on the 56 foot long North American Eagle™ every second!

With over 70 channels consisting of load cells, accelerometers, strain gauges, acoustics, and pressure transducers that are providing an incredible amount of data in some of the harshest environments you will ever encounter.  With 110 + degree temperatures and extremely fine silt, the products provided by PCB Piezotronics hold up under the most grueling conditions.

The information provides the data we need to determine if we have a safe platform.  Their products also complement many of the engineering initiatives we are developing.  At our test session in Black Rock, data gathered by our pressure transducers is used to verify Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) analysis.  Accelerometers and strain gauges provide back up information that is used to compare against our Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on our wheels.  It is also used to verify Vibration Hammer Analysis gathered on the vehicle structure.

In addition to technical and engineering support, PCB Piezotronics has made the North American Eagle™ an integral part of their advertising campaign.  Ads have appeared in SAVIAC, Aerospace Engineering, Aerospace Testing International and Sound & Vibration magazines.  Several magazines have featured articles on the Eagle and the use of PCB Piezotronics Products such as Aerospace Testing International November 2006 and Aerospace Testing International March 2007.  Look for an upcoming article in Aerospace Testing International that will have a story of the Eagle at the Black Rock Desert.  With ads running in all these magazines, readers are drawn to the page with the unique applications, and Team North American Eagle™ benefits from additional publicity.

PCB Piezotronics was directly responsible for putting the 56 foot long Eagle on display at last years Aerospace Testing Expo 2006 in Anaheim.   PCB Piezotronics also provided a hospitality meet and greet event where they flew out Buffalo Wings from the Anchor Bar in Buffalo NY.  This networking led to partnerships with Dassault Systèmes, INCAT®, FARO Technologies, Verisurf Software, HGL Dynamics, Ecliptic Enterprises Corporation, Olympus Industrial and many others.   Our presentation at Aerospace Expo 2006 was so well received, that it led to opportunities at Las Vegas for the 2007 Dassault Systèmes PLM Summit  and the 2007 European CATIA Forum in Paris France.   In addition, PCB Piezotronics placed a 9 foot model of the Eagle on display at the SAE Expo in 2006; Sensors Expo 2006; Aerospace Testing Expo Munich 2007 and  Le Bourget (Paris Air Show) June 2007 display at Aerospace Expo in Munich Germany.

At our Black Rock test session, PCB Piezotronics hosted a dinner that included none other than the land speed record legend Craig Breedlove and his wife.

The engineering support, the products, the networking and friendships provided as a result of the PCB Piezotronics partnership are invaluable.

Team North American Eagle™ is pleased to be associated with PCB Piezotronics and their 600 employees for providing the equipment and resources we need to break the world land speed record.

We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site.
