NAE™ Project: Update November 4, 2006 Ladies & Gentlemen: Present at today's work party for packing everything needed for going south to make an appearance at the Aerospace Testing Expo 2006 in Anaheim and a run at El Mirage immediately after, were Ed Shadle, Keith Zanghi, Jon Higley, Bill Eckberg, Steve Wallace, Sean Rondestvedt, Tim Finley, Von Armstrong, Tom Pengelley, Sam Yellowbird and John Winchester. A few visitors stopped by to see the car before it was loaded into the travel trailer. There were Shawn & Brian Pemberton from Lodi, CA who stayed in the area one more day just to come see the NAE™ before heading home. Then, there was the Fox family - Margo, Ronald, Kaila & Keith - who are friends of Bernard who also stopped by to receive the tour of the hangar before we loaded her up. It was evident this weekend that two guys from the Northwest would be unable to pursue the world landspeed record if it wasn't for the many volunteers and numerous sponsors. After filling two semi trailers full of parts, with a third flatbed for hauling support vehicles, the North American Eagle™ project is huge. Earlier in the week John Drury picked up the 2nd team transporter from Eagle Machine, Inc. out of Abbottsford Canada. Steve Green, of Eagle Machine, Inc., was our first partner to invest in the project. With their excellent machine work and now lending us the use of another trailer, the project could not have gone as far as it has without their support. By the way, Eagle Machine, Inc is just about ready to start manufacturing our brand new forged aluminum wheels. Engineering and design analysis is just about complete and chips should be flying by the end of the year. During the week, Bernard stopped into longtime sponsor Central Welding Supply who graciously pulled a brand new 7KW generator off the showroom floor and lent the team the use of it for our test session at El Mirage. Also this week, several other North American Eagle™ Sponsors helped us out. Covich-Williams Company supplied us with a boat load of Sorbent Products and Pads for cleaning up Jet-A fuel and hydraulic oil spills. They are a marine fueling facility in Seattle supplying the entire NW Fishing fleet and many of Seattle's Mega-Yachts. Covich-Williams is helping break the world land speed record and helping us keep the environment clean. Small & Sons Oil Distribution in Auburn, WA dropped off a another shipload of jet fuel. The fuel will be combined with Seattle BioDiesel making the North American Eagle™ probably the only running laboratory to test bio fuels for an aerospace application. Bill Eckberg will continue with his emission testing using equipment on loan from LevX®. LevX® is longtime sponsor of the NAE™ providing our tractor and magnetic braking technology. Northwest Sports Divers (NWSD) the official supplier of compressed air and equipment used to pressurize the team's fire fighting foam dispenser unit refilled our 80 cu ft. aluminum scuba tank. This fire-retardant AFFF foam is an essential part of our fire fighting system. The AFFF Foam Dispensing unit can lay down over 5 minutes of foam in the event of a fire. NWSD equipment and services play a major role in the North American Eagle™ safety program. The AFFF Foam, which is very expensive was again donated by Fred Dahl at D&V Boat Company in Seattle. D&V Boat Company provides tug boat services for the West Coast of the State of Washington. Again this week, Powder Coatings Inc. of Mukilteo, WA took our mid-axle and finished it with bullet proof, high luster powder coat. After several modifications by McVay Mobile Welding to increase strength, the part was ready for a new paint job. The previous finish we did with regular black paint. This new powder coating will hold up better under the harsh enviroments seen by the undercarrige. The Powder Coating, Inc. finish keeps the equipment looking good and rust free. Ed traveled to Longview, WA and had our rear tires mounted and shaved by Superior Tire. Superior Tire has been a longtime sponsor of another North American Eagle™ sponsor, Interstate Wood Products. Superior Tire says they will do whatever they can to support the project. We're happy to have them aboard. Norma Reid, our seamstress who does all our patches and embroidery work finished up a suit this week for Rich Pengelley. Most of today's tasks were getting everything we need for the trip south into bins and all the equipment loaded into our second travel trailer separate from the NAE™. While the NAE™ will go to Anaheim, the other trailer will be delivered by our sponsor, NorWest Transportation, to the Callaway Ranch on the edge of El Mirage, CA to await the team's arrival for test runs following the expo apprearance. The weather turned pretty nasty before the day's work was finished; rain and wind made conditions cold, wet and sloppy for the team during loading. We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site. Interested in helping us make history and bring the record back to North America? Here's how!
