NAE™ Project: Update Archive November 15, 2003 Ladies & Gentlemen: Present today at our work party were Ed, Keith, Jon, Sean, Ed II, Steve and Libby, Bernard, and our newest team member Willie Houze with his daughter, Samantha. Willie is working on his MBA in business finance and will be helping the project with sponsorship and the financial aspects of the project. Having picked up the disk brake mount piece machined by Steve Green of Eagle Machine in Abbotsford, B.C., Ed worked on getting it attached to the wheel, putting the disk brakes into the wheel, and fitting it into the front suspension box. Due to the suspension frame's width, we discovered a minor modification was needed, which Sean easily took care of. Sean, the team's engine mechanic who works with Bill Eckberg on the engine, attempted to continue checking the stator blades where Bill left off last week, but suspects that the portable pump is not generating sufficient pressure to get individual ones to move. So, we'll have to go to "plan B" to get this task accomplished. Ed II, the team's deceleration & egress specialist, spent the day working on finally fixing the parachute sewing machine and began making one of the many deployment bags that will be needed. He managed to crank out the first one today. Steve, and his wife Libby, continued work on wiring in the aft engine bay, put wire bundles together for the cockpit. Steve also went over his layout of cockpit panels with Ed for placement and efficiency. Jon began the tedious task of stripping the wire ends of the bundles to prepare them for connecting to instruments and equipment. Keith and Jon spent some time rehearsing the presentation Challenging the World Land Speed Record. Jon will travel to Davis High School in Yakima and show it to the students at Sun Valley Academy. He will be at the school on December 2nd and 3rd. Ed and Keith have given the one hour presentation throughout the United States. This will be the first time Jon will be delivering the message that highlights the project's development. If your organization would like us to speak at your next event, contact Ed Shadle. Next week the crew will install a much needed door in the race car trailer. We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site. Interested in helping us make history and bring the record back to North America? Here's how!
