NAE™ Project: Update Archive May 27, 1997 Ladies & Gentlemen: After much work by a very hard working group of volunteers, we have the truck repaired, the trailer repaired and the North American Eagle™ (NAE) ready for some test runs. I spoke with several airports in the Northwest about running test runs on their runways but their concerns for safety and unorthodox use of their runways precluded the decision to allow the test runs, until, I spoke with the manager of the Toledo airport near Centralia Washington. They have a 5000 ft runway with a nice surface, I've landed there from time to time and found it to be a nice airport with plenty of elbow room and not much traffic. Bill (the manager) said "come on down"! The NAE team met this weekend to work out details so that we can get the most out of these tests before we head to Edwards AFB for higher speed testing. Finally we can get serious about this project. The weather projections look favorable so we should see some smoke and fire. Ed Shadle, Project Manager We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site. Interested in helping us make history and bring the record back to North America? Here's how!
