NAE™ Project:
Update Archive

May 19, 1997

Ladies & Gentlemen:

Just an update on the North American Eagle™ (NAE) as of May 19. Steve Green, owner of Eagle Machine in Abbotsford, Canada has the wheels and hubs ready for mounting onto the NAE™ axles. We will be transporting it north in a week or two in order to get that work finished. We will be conducting some short sprints down the 6600 foot runway to get a feel for the handling characteristics of the vehicle.

Last weekend Keith Zanghi, Dave Haller and I spent a great deal of time repairing the NAE™ trailer and preparing it for the upcoming trips. The truck had also gone through some repair with a new transmission, new air ride pump and some other cosmetic uplifts.

Our agreement with the USAF is completed and ready for signature by the appropriate officials. With the Coorparative Research Engineering and Development Agreement (CREDA) in place we can now get on with business. I spoke with the director of the Edwards AFB Airshow and confirmed that we will be on display at the airshow on October 17-19. This should be a very large show with General Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier and celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the formation of the USAF as well as the 50th year since General Yeager broke the sound barrier.

The biggest hurdle we still have is financing, if only a sponsor would come along and take advantage of all the exposure we will be getting. The sponsors have already missed out on several very large auto shows in which the NAE™ was featured, not to mention TV appearances of the vehicle and crew. The 10 minute long interview on the Canadian Discovery Channel was well done and the only sponsorship we could boast about was Eagle Machine. We will keep trying anyway, it's our Mount Everest to climb and we will climb it, sponsors or not!

Edward J. Shadle, Project Manager.
