NAE™ Project: Update May 21, 2006 Update Ladies & Gentlemen: Sunday Tim Finley, Bernard McVay, Rich Pengelley and his son Tom, Keith Zanghi and Ed Shadle spent 14 hours finishing up odds and ends, finally culminating in loading the 56 foot long Eagle into the NorWest Transport sponsored trailer and LevX® Tractor. The weather in the Seattle area has been in the mid 80s all week, but as usual as soon as the Eagle was moved out of the Shenck Hangar, the rains came. With lightning and thunderstorms in the area, the team was reminded that if they heard the thunder, they were still alive! The heavy down pour, combined with the heavy lifting and high temperatures was hard on the body. Special thanks this weekend goes to Covich-Williams Company of Seattle. Long time sponsor of the Eagle, they supply a full line of absorbents. They are a leading world supplier of Industrial and Environmental Sorbents. If you have an oil or hazardous waste spill, they carry the products to contain, recover and protect the environment. This past couple weeks the team has dumped a lot of hydraulic fluid on the floor and in the car. The Covich William absorbent pads kept the area safe and clean. Additional thanks go out to Rapp Hydema who worked with us all week to finish up the hydraulic system on the car. Most people looking at the car would never know there is over an 1/8th mile of high pressure stainless steel tubing supplying fluid to many of the car's systems. Another longtime sponsor of the Eagle, McVay Mobile Welding pulled their top welder off of the job and sent him to Spanaway to work all week. The week ended up with many of the team members putting in more time at the hangar than at their regular jobs. With the Eagle in the box for the long trip to El Mirage, the only thing left to do is pack up our shop supplies, tools and spare parts for the trip. With our upcoming test session less than two weeks off, Ed and Jon have been receiving correspondences from all over the land speed racing world who plan on coming to El Mirage to view the test runs. Doug Schwartz at Sterling Creative Integration is expecting up to 50 members from the press to show up. An online press release is now available for the El Mirage Test Session, City of Palmdale and Burbank's Aerobooks/Autobooks Bookstore appearances. We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site. Interested in helping us make history and bring the record back to North America? Here's how!
