NAE™ Project:
Update Archive

May 12, 2000

Ladies and Gentlemen:

The team has been very busy this past week. Keith has been doing a few updates on the web site but more are needed. I received the books I ordered from Thompson books. I now have the J-79-11B service manual, parts manual and wiring manual for the 104. The service manual is a full 6 inches thick.

I took delivery of a surplus J-79-11B engine from the NASA scrap yard. It appears to be incomplete and is sitting on a transportation trailer. Even though it won't run, it will make an ideal display engine  at auto shows. Included with the shipment were two afterburner sections with extra turkey feathers.

Wayne Olsen came up from Camas, WA to see the project and to deliver his soon to be published book on aircraft performance. We now have a very valuable document in our possession to assist in understanding more about the environment we are about to venture into.

We've been making quite a bit of progress on the damaged skin and frames. Dirk has been hand building new frame pieces. Lotsa work! I've drawn up the basics for the front suspension and discussed it with Steve Green. I've also contacted Hydraulics NW for some technical consulting in respect to the suspension and steering dynamics.

I traded a couple G model wheels to Primier Jets in Hillsboro (the F-104G from Mojave) and now have a C2 ejection seat for our 104. Man it fits just perfectly. Now I can sit in the NAE and make jet noises and get all psyched up.

This Saturday is the usual work party but mothers day is Sunday so we'd better stay away from the project for that one day, if we know what's good for us.....

That's it for now. More info coming.........Ed
