NAE™ Project: Update Archive March 6, 2004 Ladies & Gentleman: This past weekend the team installed the central nervous system and the arteries of the beast. Steve, Libby, Bob, and Bernard installed the massive wiring harness routing it from the electronics bay through several bulkheads to the very aft position of the vehicle. This maze of wires will transmit signals from fire detection sensors, load cells, accelerometers, as well as strain and acoustic gages. In addition, the team installed some of the hydraulic tubing used to operate the air brake doors and the LEV-X Magnetic Braking. Bernard was busy at work welding different projects together. He also found time to install the driver air supply mounting bracket. Earlier in the week Ed had the assembly painted by the good folks down at Performance Coatings in Kent, Washington. This system will supply air to Ed when he is driving the car. The system consist of a high pressure tank regulated down using conventional SCUBA regulators to a demand regulator mounted in the helmet. If you are a supplier of those types of mouthpieces we would like to hear from you since we haven't acquired one yet. Bernard brought along his son Dennis for the day, along with his brother Bill and his boy Aaron. Following standard NAE procedures we immediately put the two boys to work. When not working on the Eagle all the brothers and sons compete in competive motorcycle hill climb events in the summer and snowmobile drag racing in the winter. Ed II completed one of two parachute assemblies. Here's a picture of unit that will provide stopping power for our low speed runs. The main parachute is 16 foot in diameter and uses a spring assisted drogue chute to pull the unit from the housing. Throughout the day the team had a very special guest. Dorothy Wilhelm, a well known television and radio personality was on hand to help direct additional footage that will be used in an upcoming edition of her series "My Home Town". For those in the Puget Sound area, we will publish the complete schedule of the air dates. In her spare time Dorothy is a successful public speaker and author. If you have been to our site before you probably noticed we've changed our look. Thanks to our sponsor Miracle Studios and their software SiteMax, the new site will make it easier for our team to get the information published on the web. Glenn Amy and Jon Higley, along with Chris Miller from Miracle Studios, migrated the hundreds of webpages and thousands of pictures to the new format. If your business is looking for an inexpensive way to get on the Internet and can't afford a full time webmaster, SiteMax makes it easy for any organization to get on the web with the minimal of website skills. If you can work a word processor, you can operate SiteMax. In the very near future Landspeed.com will have its very own server. If you're a producer of Server Software, this would be a great time to contact Ed Shadle and become a partner on the greatest automotive challenge of this millennium. We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site. Interested in helping us make history and bring the record back to North America? Here's how!
