NAE™ Project: Update Archive March 5, 2002 Ladies & Gentlemen: "Slim" Inducted Into the Washington Aviation Hall of Fame "Slim" helps out with the vertical stabilizer on the NAE. A look at the opposite side of the vertical stabilizer skin work.
A little about Ralph "Slim" Lawson. Slim, as everyone knows him, is 82 years old. He will be celebrating his 62nd year since he solo'd on March 14th,1940. He has over 18,000 hours in light planes and over 14,000 hours instructing. He took over the operation of Spanaway Airport in 1962 and still flies regularly. Occasionally he climbs in the Cessna 150 and flies off to faraway places like Texas and Oshkosh. In February of 2002, Slim was inducted onto the Washington Aviation Hall of Fame. Prior to being inducted into the Army in WWII, Slim worked for Boeing on the B-17. After the war he returned to Boeing where he worked for 18 years. Occasionally Slim gets called upon to put his riveting skills to work on the F-104. Standing 6 feet 6 inches tall, he can reach the high spots on the tail of the North American Eagle. We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site. Interested in helping us make history and bring the record back to North America? Here's how!
