NAE™ Project:
Update Archive

June 5, 1998

Ladies & Gentlemen:

The North American Eagle™  (NAE) project is currently going through some changes. We're working at a fever pitch to get the program focused on new parts, sponsors and overall mission. With the record now set at 763 mph, thechallenge is much greater than before. Keith Zanghi and I purchased a new trailer a couple weeks ago. It is a beautiful 48 foot long trailer designed for hauling luxury cars. With the onboard hydraulic loading device it will improve our capability of onloading and offloading the jet car in less time with much less difficulty. Next, we need to find a reasonable priced tractor to pull it with. So far, we've been lucky enough to borrow a tractor when needed but that can be worn thin.

S&S Turbines Services, located in Fort St.John, BC, has set aside a J-79-15 engine for use in the new vehicle. Ron Sipes company is considered the premier civilian expert by GE in regards to making the J-79 produce power and reliability. Ron is going through the engine with a fine tooth comb to make sure it is healthy. One of the suggestions he has is to coat some of the internal workings with Zirconium. This will result in a 13% horsepower gain.

The team met with Ron Steger, Executive Director of the National Child Safety Council, Race Against Drugs®. We've come to an agreement that North American Eagle Services and Race Against Drugs® will work together on the Land Speed Challenge. The results of the meeting and contract are exciting for both organizations.

I recently met with the Pierce County Department of Emergency Preparedness in Tacoma. I'm somewhat familiar with their mission because of my background in Disaster Recovery Planning. When I introduced myself to Ed Reed, Director and produced my business card which indicates that I'm a CBCP (Certified Business Continuity Professional) we new right off that we would form a great association. Ed agreed to work with us and the Race Against Drugs in anyway he and his organization can. Most of our team reside in Pierce County so it seems appropriate to have the Pierce County Logo on the jet car.

As new developments occur, I'll feed the updates to the webmaster, Keith and try to keep the program on track and the motoring public informed.

We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site.
