NAE™ Project: Update July 28, 2007 Ladies and Gentlemen: This weekend Bryce Ockerman, Tim Finley, Barb Drumheller, John Winchester, Scott Robertson, Cam, Rachel and Alex Shadle, Bill Eckberg, Von Armstrong, Rich Pengelley, Keith Zanghi and Ed Shadle were part of this week's work part. Last weekend the team finished up our newly improved steering box. During the week, Bernard McVay brought the assembly down to Powder Coatings, Inc. which did another fantastic job powder coating the box with a brilliant white finish. Keith and Bryce installed a larger heavier duty steering actuator built by Hydraulic Repair and Design. Bryce has been working on his Senior Project with the team. This weekend he brings it all together as he will give his final presentation. We will let you know next week what his final grade is! We told him it better be an “A”, other wise he was going to spend the rest of the summer sorting fasteners! Tim and Ed built some new brackets for attaching a tow strap to the suspension. Tim had the responsibility of welding them to the swing arm. Maurizio Croppi at Hydraulic Repair and Design installed new fittings and relief valves. The modification will make it easier to bleed the brake system and simplify the hydraulic tubing. Scott Robertson got a big chunk of the hydraulics completed. Rich and Von got the least glamorous job of the weekend. Over the years the rain finally got to the fiberboard covering the hangar door, so the guys spent most of the day doing some preventative maintenance. Looks like we will be set for this winter! During a recent visit to our sponsor Puget Sound Rope, John Winchester got his photo taken along side the world's largest rope loom. Puget Sound Rope is the world's leader with their Plasma Spectra Rope that has revolutionized the tugboat industry.
Barb dropped off a model of some aerodynamic ideas from Waldo Stakes. We will have the aerodynamic team review the data for possible use. We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site. Interested in helping us make history and bring the record back to North America? Here's how!
