NAE™ Project: Update January 19, 2008 Ladies & Gentlemen: Today's work party saw Ed Shadle, Keith Zanghi, Jon Higley, Bill Eckberg, Steve Wallace, Tim Finley, John Winchester, Omar Chramosta, Gino Sanfilipo, Eric McClain, and Josh Strange present. Our first guest to stop by the hangar today was Col. Stephen Root (USAF, Ret.); a friend of John Winchester's. He chatted with Ed & Keith about the project and is considering contributing to it. Dr. Dave Thomas, president of Thomas Aerospace Corporation, and a long-time member of our Eagle's Lair Club, also visited the hangar later in the afternoon with his wife and son Justin. Dr. Thomas's brother Randy, is the designer of parachutes capable of deployment at over Mach 1. Earlier in the week, Dave Robertson spent several hours installing hard lines onto the rear axles to replace the flexible tubing we'd been using. Today, Steve worked on replacing a couple of instruments in the cockpit that will insure more efficient and accurate data collection. At the same time, Tim worked on testing a voltage regulator which will serve as a back up unit for the car. John Winchester, Eric, and Josh worked together on fabricating new parachute tubes and brackets to replace the low speed units used in past test runs. Tim, Omar and Ed replaced a damaged connector on our American Valley Aviation M32-60B start cart. Ed, Jon, and Keith, with the oversight of Bill who is recovering from shoulder surgery, reinstalled the front steering box in preparation for the wheel carraige which is being powder coated by our wonderful sponsors Powder Coating, Inc. Having done this delicate procedure so many times, the team completed the task in the least amount of time and with very little effort. When the carraige returns early this week, it will be installed into the box and a wheel mounted onto it so the car can be taken off jacks. In a couple of weeks, the hangar will be visited by a very special guest who is considering becoming involved in the project. So, we'll be getting the hangar ready and you don't want to miss this once we announce it. You'll like it! We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site. Interested in helping us make history and bring the record back to North America? Here's how!
