NAE™ Project:
Update Archives

January 14, 2006

Ladies & Gentlemen:

On the 27th consecutive day of rain in the Pacific Northwest, team members Ed Shadle, Keith Zanghi, Jon Higley, Bill Eckberg, Steve Wallace, Bernard McVay, Patricia Woods, Tim Finley, Meeko the Moocher, Ed Drumheller II, Earl Gratzer, Omar Charamosta, Willie Houze and his friend Jim Steevens were on hand to get work done. Tasks from last week's work party were continued, but the big "show stealer" this week was the arrival of the Zero/Zero ejection seat that was donated by our newest sponsor - Goodrich.

Ed Drumheller II, who not only was very familiar with this seat, but had also seen the same seat years ago at another facility, gave the team a mini-class instruction on how the seat works. Earlier in the week after its arrival, Ed and Omar took it over to the hangar and extracted it from the shipping crate. With some minor modifications, and the funds to acquire the arming charges, the seat will be installed and able to eject the driver safely out of the car, if necessary, to return to earth via parachute. The team is very thankful to Goodrich for their donation to the project in support of our goal.

Ed Shadle finished reassembling the repaired winch that had broken, while Earl and his friend Bob cleaned up the new ejection seat. Jon and Patricia worked on the hangar's computer by putting in a USB card and analyzing why it was having its problems. Some hard disk formatting and reinstallation of the OS, along with additional RAM on the motherboard looks to be in order. Next week, Patricia may have a video card that will enhance performance as well.

Meanwhile, Steve Wallace and Tim Finley were busy working on wiring and instruments in the electronics bay and cockpit respectively. At the same time, Willie and his friend Jim were replacing some hydraulics filters.

Later in the afternoon, the guys caught glimpses of the Seattle Seahawks winning their first NFC Playoff game. Sorry Redskins fans. Nice try! On to the NFC Championship game.
