NAE™ Project: Update February 27, 2010 Ladies and Gentlemen: For the past two weekends, team members have been very busy making modifications that will dramatically increase the power of our S&S Turbine Services LM1500 turbojet engine. Working in conjunction with our Canadian friends to the North headed up by Robin Sipe and Al Von Hollen, along with Dave Wood, Brian Maddigan, and Lane McCabe our Propulsion Systems Team here in the States have made some enhancements that will add about 2000 more horsepower! Onsite Steve Wallace, Bill Eckberg, Dave Selby, John Zambrano, Sean Rondestvedt, Von Armstrong, Jon Higley, Chris Greene, Larry and Dustin Martinson, Omar Chramosta, Bernard McVay, Sam Yellowbird, Eric Helpenstell, Rich Pengelley, Scott Robertson, Keith Zanghi and Ed Shadle have been busy making the latest upgrades to ensure our attempt at the record later this year. With the most knowledgeable engine team ever assembled, Bill, Sean, John, Von and Rich, along with Scott hooking up the final fuel lines, the team has successfully installed a much larger fuel delivery system. Next weekend the team will reattach the afterburner assembly and ready the powerplant for installation of the LM1500 into the car the following work session. Working virtual, our aerodynamics team has been very busy putting together the computer models of the FARO vehicle scans using Geomagic Software, Dassault Systèmes CATIA V5, Lenovo ThinkStations and ThinkPads and precise model manipulation with 3Dconnexion SpacePilot PRO™ 3D mouse These efforts are being led by Don Mitchell, along with extensive support from Troy Ashby from Geomagic. Ed finished up a new cockpit panel. He rearranged many of the gauges to make them more ergonomically friendly. This is our 3rd and final configuration change to the cockpit layout. Thanks to the 29 previous test runs, Ed now has a "front office" that will make him more efficient as he drives the 56 foot long Eagle on its record run. A lot of work is taking place in California at the Ecliptic Enterprises facility as they prepare six (6) HD onboard RocketCam™ cameras that will ride along with Ed and capture the runs in High Definition. Along with all the work taking place on the vehicle, Ed has been securing our test are by extensive logistic planning with the BLM for use of the Diamond Valley Lakebed in Nevada. This site will be ideal to bring the record back to North America. On the Newsstands If you own a Falcon Business Jet, then you have seen the North American Eagle in the latest issue of Falconer Magazine, Issue 36 / 2010. If you're not lucky enough to own a multi-million dollar business jet, the you can read The Quest To Be The Fastest Car On Earth written by Grant Kielczewski, Managing Editor on line. It features extraordinary photos of our July 2009 test session at The Black Rock Desert, and tells the story of tenacity and resourcefulness as our team challenges the 763 mph world land speed record. And last month Team North American Eagle made the front cover and great story written by Don Talend. The January 2010 issue of GPS World Magazine describes how we have integrated the Topcon GPS unit into the vehicle.
