NAE™ Project: Update Archives February 18, 2006 Ladies & Gentlemen: Today's work party had Ed Shadle, Cam Shadle, Keith Zanghi, Jon Higley, Steve Wallace, Ed Drumheller II, Von Armstrong, Dave Selby, Bernard McVay, Patricia Wood, Aaron McVay, Dennis McVay, Tim Finley, Ryan Mower, Rob Mattson, and Meeko the Moocher present. The hangar was visited today by a group of Federal Way High School Air Force Jr. ROTC students. Led by Lt. Col. Randy Long, Senior Aerospace Science Instructor, the group was given a tour by Jon Higley of the facility and shown demonstrations of how the magnetic braking on the rear wheels work. Unfortunately for the group, Ed Shadle was busy giving a presentation to group of marketeers for speed products over in University Place at the time the group was present, so they didn't get to meet him in person. However, they were given autographed pictures of Ed with the NAE™, a DVD of the Megabuilders show signed by the team members present, and an old removed part from the airframe as a memento for the group. Meeko? Well, as usual, she spent her time "hamming it up" in front of Ed's '32 Duce Coupe. The team put panels and the tail cone on the back of the engine and loaded up the "beast" in preparation for next week end's appearance at the EAA's Aviation Trade Show in Puyallup at the fairgrounds. Steve Wallace worked with the mock-up of the mechanism that will link the canards to the actuator controlling the canards. On Saturday, Scott Crossfield will be there to give a presentation. We also plan to have him visit the NAE™ for a 'photo op' since he also flew 56-0763; much like we did with former pilot of 56-0763 Joe Engle at Edwards AFB last October. We hope to see lots of folks from our local area there. We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site. Interested in helping us make history and bring the record back to North America? Here's how!
