NAE™ Project:
Update Archives

February 4, 2006

Ladies & Gentlemen:

The hangar of the NAE™ was hopping with activity again this Saturday with Ed Shadle, Keith Zanghi, Jon Higley, Bill Eckberg, Ed Drumheller II, Bernard McVay, Patricia Wood, Gabriella Dalton, Tim Finley, Meeko the Moocher, Omar Chramosta, Glenn Amy, Rich Penngelly, Ryan Mower, as well as Scott  Robertson and Dave Wheelen from Rapp Hydema U.S. Inc. were on hand to get several tasks accomplished.

The hydraulic modifications - which included some additions of quick disconnects in the engine bay near the belly door and the routing of a few extra lines for braking connections - were begun by Scott and Dave in collaboration with Bill Eckberg.

Bernard fabricated some brackets for the addition of hydraulic lines with the Lincoln tig-welder donated by our sponsor Welders-Direct.com. Meanwhile Patricia, with the help of her daughter Gabriella, worked on the two hangar computers. Ed Drumheller II continued sewing together more high-speed parachute bags and showed team members pictures from his research binders about the shape charges which will need to be used on the canopy with the zero-zero seat provided by Goodrich.

Tim Finley continued cannon plug rewiring work on the engine and cockpit area, while Ryan, our high school student working on his graduation project, was working on creating new Power Point presentations for the team. Omar drained and replaced the oil from the starter on the front of the engine.

Ed Shadle treated the fuel cell bladder problem with a sealant to eliminate the leak. Tim Finley will reinstall the fuel pumps after some wiring work is done to add circuit breaker protection to the fuel pumps so they can not be over amped again.

During the coming week a few of the team members will finish up some of the work that needs to be done to have the car ready for next weekend's reinstallation of the engine.

We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site.
