NAE™ Project: Update Archives February 21, 2003 Ladies & Gentlemen: Last week was a busy week for the Team NAE™. On Monday Ed, Jon and Keith presented "Challenging the World Land Speed Record" to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. It was evident from the question and answering session at the end that the sold out crowd enjoyed the 1 1/2 hour presentation.
Friday, Ed and Keith flew to Orlando Fl, arrived at the airport in the evening and drove to Tampa. The following day they met with Rick Svetkoff from the Starfighters Exhibition Air Demonstration Team. Rick gave them a great tour of the aircraft and the beautiful Executive Jet facilities. Rick is the owner of the three immaculate F-104s: A single seater and a couple of two seaters. The Starfighters have been operating for over seven years now and have flown at airshows all over North America. The team learned a lot from this veteran F-104 pilot and new friend. Following the meeting with Rick, Ed and Keith drove to Daytona Beach and met with Scott from Race Against Drugs® program. The next day Scott was one of the participants in the pre-race festivities at the Daytona 500. The two capped the night off by visiting the Daytona Beach Kennel Club where Ed talked shop with the folks running the booth at the Greyhound Pets of America (GPA). One of the philanthropic activities Ed and his wife donate time and money to is the GPA in the Pacific Northwest. GPA finds adoptive parents for the dogs no longer able to race. On Sunday Ed and Keith joined up with Dennis and Sherron Elledge from Seattle. Sitting in the "Daytona Superstretch" section the four had great seats to watch the Michael Waltrip win the 45th running of the Daytona 500. With Ed and Keith in Florida the rest of the team took a much needed break. Next week will be busy again as work will continue on preparations for the Pacific International Auto & Light Truck Show in March. Be sure to visit us next week! We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site. Interested in helping us make history and bring the record back to North America? Here's how!
