NAE™ Project:
Update Archives

February 1, 2000 Update

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Keith and I have been a little tardy on updates over the winter months. No real excuse other than being so busy with project tasks that writing updates got put on hold.

We’ve taken the F-104 to Steve Green’s shop to have him and his brother Dave do some very important work on the vehicle. We completed the spacer plate between the fuselage and the tail cone, attached the intermediate shaft and transport wheels and hubs to the axle. Dave Green built a tow bar for the front suspension dolly so we can now pull the vehicle around with a tug.

Ron Norman, Jon Higley, Keith and I worked on some mundane chores, which were necessary. We repaired or replaced a few panels, removed the main and reserve fuel bladders and did general cleanup work.

Potelco Company, located in Sumner Washington has loaned us a 40’ step deck trailer for as long as we need and it came in real handy for this trip. I had no trouble at all getting the tractor/trailer with the F-104 on it, into Canada and back into the US. The Border patrols (customs) for both countries were very cooperative, helpful and friendly.

Our next work party will include removing plumbing and wiring which will not be needed and identifying items which will have to be retained or replaced. We also have more panels to replace and some major skin repairs. We’re still looking for a nice warm hanger or shop to work in for a few months.

That is all for this update but as soon as something new and important pops up, I’ll let you all know about it…
