NAE™ Project: Update December 1, 2007 Ladies and Gentlemen: From sand storms to snow storms, the North American Eagle™ has been in some diverse environments in the last month! Today, Bernard McVay, Von Armstrong, Libby Wallace, Jon Higley, Keith Zanghi, Ed Shadle, Rich Pengelley, Tom Pengelley, Gino Sanfillipo, John Drury, Rob Martinson, Bill Eckberg, Russ Garlow, Sam Yellowbird, John Winchester and an appearance by Eric Helpenstell, braved the snow flurries and unloaded the 56 foot long Eagle in the parking lot of the B&I Marketplace in Tacoma, Washington. A longtime sponsor for the North American Eagle™, the B&I Marketplace has been there throughout 2007 helping with our wheel manufacturing and picking up some of our expenses for the trip to Black Rock. In addition, B&I Marketplace has made the Eagle a part of their marketing program by using images of the Eagle in newspaper ads and running videos of the Eagle in all of their television commercials. These activities not only provide the “hook” for shoppers to head to the B&I Marketplace, but increases impressions for the rest of our sponsors. Since 1946, the residents in Puget Sound have been coming to the B&I Marketplace. It was billed as a Circus Mall because of the many animals on display, most notably Ivan the Gorilla. In 1994 Ivan was moved to the Zoo Atlanta, where he lives today. Virtually every person in the Seattle / Tacoma area over the age of 30 knows who Ivan the Gorilla is. The B&I Marketplace was one of the original pioneers of the malls that we know today. To seek relief from the cold, team members took turns and headed into the mall where there is a large food court to get warm drinks and a little lunch. All day long, shoppers stopped by to get photos and talk with members of the crew. Many had seen the commercials on television and stopped by for the very first time just to see the Eagle. Thanks to Island Print Services in Sydney BC, team members passed out hundreds of 8 x 10 photos to all the kids under the age of 99! About mid-day, the team had a very special guest stop by. Santa Claus and his nine reindeer flew in to check out the Eagle! Amazingly, Santa’s sleigh and team of reindeer are about the same length as the Eagle! When Ed asked Santa if he would like to use the Eagle to deliver presents and that it had a top speed of around 800 mph, old Saint Nick laughed so loud you could here him inside the mall! He said it would be fun to ride, but just not fast enough to make his deliveries. He did however ask Ed to keep him in mind as an alternate driver. While there, Santa checked his list and to the relief of all the team members present, each and every one of them could look forward to a Merry Christmas! In spite of the cold, it was a fun day and we met some really special people.
