NAE™ Project: Update The Thanksgiving Holiday Southern Tour is Dedicated to Ed Drumheller II Team North American Eagle™ would like to thank the following companies for sponsoring our Aerospace Testing Expo 2006, El Mirage Test Session # 5 and The John Force Holiday Auto Show appearance: LEV-X®, PCB Piezotronics, Inc, McVay Mobile Welding, Seattle BioDiesel, Small & Sons Petroleum, Eagle Machine, Inc., and ITR North America. December 2, 2006 Ladies & Gentlemen: Today a big step in the project occurred with six of our newest sponsors. Early Saturday morning, Tim Finley, Jon Higley, Ed Shadle, Steve and Libby Wallace, Keith Zanghi, Rich and Tom Pengelley and John Drury unloaded the 56 foot long North American Eagle™ into the back parking lot of John Force Racing (JFR) in Yorba Linda, California. After about 2 hours the team had the car unloaded and fully assembled for what will become one of the most significant days in the history of the project. Around 11am Mark Flubacher and Jeff Squibbs from FARO® Technologies, Larry Kuehn from INCAT® , Ernie Husted from Verisurf Software, and Mark TenEyck from Dassault Systemes arrived at JFR and started setting up their FARO® Laser Tracker and FARO® Arm to digitize the entire car. Using Verisurf Software with Ernie at the controls, the team completely transform the car into digital data that can now be used for all types of analysis. This information can now be used for Computational Fluid Dynamics, Rapid Prototyping, Wind Tunnel Models and Structural Testing using the latest Dassault CATIA (Computer Aided Three Dimensional Interactive Applications) on IBM Hardware. In the next few weeks we will be highlighting these companies and how much they have influenced the world. This data will eventually be used to create a wind tunnel model for CFD analysis of the car and its behavior at transonic and supersonic speeds. The team would like to thank Shane, the machine shop foreman for JFR. He helped us all day long for our digitizing efforts whenever we needed something moved, or 110 volt power. The team would also like to thank George Callaway for letting us store the LevX® Transporter at his property on El Mirage Dry Lake Bed these past two weeks. The team would also like to thank John Force himself, who let the team wander the 14 time World Funny Car Champion's incredible facility. At the end of the day, the team repositioned the car in preparation for the John Force Racing Holiday Car Show where all proceeds went to support the CHP Toys for Kids program. See our Sunday update for that report. Also, an extensive update and photo gallery will be added soon to the site about our participation in the John Force Holiday Auto Show. We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site. Interested in helping us make history and bring the record back to North America? Here's how!
