NAE™ Project:
Update Archives

December 20, 2000

Ladies and Gentlemen:

The team has certainly dwindled now that winter type weather has hit the Northwest. It's never fun to work outdoors when in the wind and rain, even when it's working on a landspeed vehicle. Somehow the romance fades a little but a few of us hardcore types are hanging in there. Keith Zanghi, Jon Higley, Glenn Amy and I are still picking away at the "beast".

The wing root covers have been molded into place through the skilled help of Bob Pelca and his team assisting Glenn, Jon, Keith and me. We put up many layers of glass and Kevlar in Bobs hanger. We still have the finish work to do but we're waiting to get the fuselage back into another warm hanger. The Wings West hanger we were using, is in the midst of remodeling so we're out for a while. We successfully loaded the 104 into the trailer, per the October update, and it is now back at the Spanaway Airport.

Working out of the back of the trailer, Jon, Keith and I attached the stinger onto the tail cone. I had to build a new frame to splice the two pieces together. It took allot of figuring and fitting to make it work, sort of like shaping horseshoes for the perfect fit. We're down to drilling and filling and welding the stainless, then the tail cone and stinger are done. Next is the front suspension.

You may have noticed a hold in the website. That is because of the long long process of getting our internet service providers switched. We finally have everything transitioned to Cascadia Software but getting Network Solutions to switch the domains has taken forever. Keith has been sending faxes and emails to that company for two months and still nothing has moved. I guess their "change management" processes needs some improvement.

Talking about changes, we've gone through some changes in our relationship with the US Air Force at Edwards AFB. I cannot go into any significant detail at this time but I will provide the details of what happened in the very near future. It is sufficient enough to say, when politics and greed cross paths with a land speed project, the greedy ones with political connections make life real hard on you.

With the holidays upon us, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site.
