NAE™ Project:
Update Archives

August 26, 1998

Ladies and Gentlemen:

This has been a very busy past week for Ed Shadle and myself. We had the opportunity to speak to the American Chemical Society® (ACS) in Boston. The one hour presentation told the history, the present teams involved and an update of the North American Eagle™ (NAE) project. Just like the show earlier this year in Dallas, the crowd was very enthusiastic. The presentation combined computer generated format, mixed with video. The next ACS show will be in Anaheim.

Following the show, the team traveled to the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. There we met with MIT professors involved in the aeronautics and astronomics department. We discussed many of the technical aspects of breaking the sound barrier, specifically as the vehicle transitions from a subsonic to a supersonic state. It is now evident that Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) will have to be done to study the effects of supersonic vehicles close to the ground. No formal cooperative agreement was made, but the team did make some contacts (and new friends) that may prove to be fruitful in the future.

These trips are always a lot of hard work and preparation, that often causes us to be away from our families. It does have its perks. Ed and I got the chance to do a little sightseeing. Traveling to Cape Cod, the team saw a very beautiful part of the country. One unique opportunity was the visiting of John F. Kennedy's birthplace and the campus of Harvard University. It was ironic, this past year Ed and I have been following in the footsteps of Kennedy. In Dallas we saw the historic Dealy Plaza where it all ended, and this past weekend the tree lined streets of the Boston suburb of Brookline where it all began.

In the upcoming weeks the team will be securing shop space in the South Sound Area of Seattle/Tacoma. Work will reach a feverish pace in about a month as the NAE begins to take life.

Respectfully,

Keith Zanghi, Director of Operations
