NAE™ Project:
Update

August 18, 2007

Ladies & Gentlemen:

Today Ed Shadle, Keith Zanghi, Jon Higley, Omar Chramosta, and Rich Pengelley were present for the "post Speed Week" work party. More on that will be coming soon. Sam Yellowbird made an early appearance and exit.

Ron's group

Today Ron, one of our sub-team support members, brought some family and friends by the hangar to learn more about the project. Jon gave them the tour around the hangar and car. They're always scratching their heads when you explain and demonstrate how the magnetic braking system on the rear wheels work.

The main task today was the very slow process of aligning and grinding out the holes for the rear pin to the front wheel well box. After that was accomplished, Ed marked the rear wall of the box where the hydraulic lines route through the bulkhead and into the box wall. After Ed, Rich & Jon dropped the steering box out of the well, Ed torched out the larger openning and ground off the edges. Keith repainted the exposed metal.

During a team briefing by Ed about progress on various other aspects of the project, Ed received a phone call from Andy Green - current record holder - who had spent the previous week at Bonneville during Speed Week '07. He informed Ed that he wouldn't be able to make it up to Washington state and the NAE™ hangar after all.

Tomorrow, Tim Finley will be installing a steering box valve stablizing unit that will resolve a binding problem we encountered a few weeks prior.

Scott Robertson will also be coming in to finish up a few minor adjustments to the cockpit hydraulic tubing. Ed will be spending time next week chasing down various unfinished business on the "beast" so that we can hopefully get in a test session this fall once everything comes together.

We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site.
