NAE™ Project: Update April 14, 2007 Ladies and Gentlemen: Work continues as we prepare for our upcoming test session. Rich Pengelley, Bernard McVay, Tim Finley, Steve Wallace, Scott Robertson, Von Armstrong, Bill Eckberg, Mike Thoe, John Winchester, Omar Chramosta, Keith Zanghi, Ed Shadle and Meeko were on hand Saturday to continue work on the 56 foot long 42,500 hp landspeed record challenger. We had a special guest this week. Carmen Sterba, a good friend of Libby’s, stopped by the hangar. She talked to the crew and, like everyone else, couldn’t believe how big the car was. Bill worked on a number of systems including communication antennas and aircraft radios. Rich, Von, Bernard and Tim worked on a new truck donated by Rich Pengelley. The former motor home was stripped of its camper and McVay Mobile Welding of Bothell, WA over the past few weeks built and installed a brand new 12 foot bed. The new truck will be used for a number of tasks including fire fighting and transportation of water and equipment. Special thanks go out to Everett Steel who supplied the entire aluminum diamond deck floor. Plywood Supply of Kenmore, WA supplied all the wood, and finally, Evergreen RV furnished all the LED lighting and roof air conditioning. In the coming weeks we will finish the extended cab and install a tow bar. Sam Yellowbird from One More Time Supply will be giving it a fresh coat of NAE Red paint. John sized up the parachutes and took measurements for our deployment system. Mike Thoe is working with John and has developed a matrix on the parachute system that will be utilized to better understand our requirements. Omar worked hard and finally found the wiring problem that restored the rear tail lights on the new truck rig. Don Mitchell worked the weekend virtual and is getting prepared to start the final design on our wheels. Using Dassault Systemes CATIA V5, Don is able to work from his home on his PC and support the project with design and systems integration. Dassault Systemes PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) solutions help bring the product to market faster, or in our case get the car on the dry lakebed sooner, in the most efficient way reducing costs associated with people, material and resources. Steve has also been working virtual this week. Using the data generated from Barry Young at FARO Technologies, Steve is using CATIA to design the canard control system. That’s it for now. Just a reminder, Mega Builders – Worlds Fastest Wheels will be airing three more times in May. When we get closer to May, we will publish the dates. The one hour Dugald Maudsley directed show has aired 17 times since being released in the US market. We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site. Interested in helping us make history and bring the record back to North America? Here's how!
