NAE™ Project: Update Archives April 1, 2006 Ladies & Gentlemen: Several of the crew were present at today's work party: Ed Shadle, Keith Zanghi, Jon Higley, Bill Eckberg, Steve Wallace, Tim Finley, Omar Chramosta, Von Armstrong, Earl Gratzer, Rich Pengelley, Benard McVay, Patricia Wood, Meeko, and a special visit from Steve Green and his brother Dave from Abbotsford, BC. The main focus of work by the team today was on the continued fabrication of the rear wheel steering mechanisms that are being mounted under the glare shield and just aft of the nose plate bulkhead. Ed Shadle worked at mounting a brake cylinder on the nose plate bulkhead. Bolt holes were drilled and the cylinder was mounted next to one of the pillow mounts for the canards. Meanwhile, Tim Finley fine tuned the connection brackets that will link up the electrical actuators that will be controlled by the foot pedals in the cockpit. Keith Zanghi and Jon Higley worked together on framing posters to be given to more of our project sponsors, as well as the continued building of a PowerPoint presentation Ed and Keith will be giving later this month in Seattle. While Patricia Wood added a sound card and speakers to one of the two computers in the hangar, Bernard McVay was over in the other corner giving welding lessons to Tim Finley using the Lincoln welding unit on the connection brackets. Steve Wallace worked on soldering the cannon plugs for the canard system while Bill Eckberg worked at installing the hydraulic tubing for the newly fabricated braking cylinder mounts under the glare shield. Steve also worked on how he is going to place one of the two position transducers, provided by our newest sponsor SpaceAge Control, in the front wheel well. It will perform the job of monitoring the load on the front axle as the car travels down the course. Earl Gratzer and Von Armstrong worked together on "spiffing" up the afterburner coffee table which was transported over to Spencer Aircraft at Thunn Field for display there for a while. At the latter part of the afternoon Steve Green and his brother Dave arrived at the hangar from the trip out of California north back to home in Abottsford, BC. Steve recently returned from a trip over to England to do some research on the construction of the ThrustSSC's wheels. He shared with those who had not yet left the hangar some interesting points he'd learned about what our project will do in designing and constructing our all aluminum wheels this spring. Discussion was also had about the second Dallas-Smith trailer the team has purchased which will be made into a portable machine shop/freezer unit/generator. It will have a full trailer length overhang canopy on the side for shade while the team is out on Black Rock desert. We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site.
