NAE™ Project:
Update Archives

April 3, 2004

Ladies & Gentlemen:

Speed freaks of all types came to view the NAE™ at the Museum of Flight's "Need For Speed" event today. Ed, Keith, Jon, Steve, Libby, Von, Bernard, Dennis, Aaron, Ed II, Barbara, Bill, Cameron and Robert were all present to greet the crowds.

At noon, Ed & Keith gave a presentation in the Museum's theatre and later in the day were part of a panel of speed drivers and pilots who answered questions from the audience. Lee Oman (center below with Drumheller) was giving bi-plane rides next to our display. This man had a very close brush with death a few years ago when, as a wing-walker, he fell off the plane he was on, but managed to snag a cord around his wrist attached to the plane. He was dangling for several minutes as a quick thinking pair of men on the ground drove a pick up truck along the runway to match the plane's speed in the air and get Lee into the truck before the plane ran out of gas.

Another visitor to the NAE™ was Bill Drew (above right) who, during his younger days was a test pilot at Edwards AFB. He flew the F-104 twice, along with several other aircraft. One of the more distinguished panel members was an SR-71 pilot Brian Shul, who later stopped by the NAE™ with his lovely lady to chat with the crew and look over our vehicle. He was very impressed and surprised we have yet to land a major sponsor. We hope that will happen soon.

Libby and Barbara set up and handled the table of NAE Gear™ under the awning, while pit pass holders walked around the vehicle and asked questions.

Ed sat in the cockpit for a few minutes to check the newly made head rest for the driver's helmet on the ejection seat while Jon, Steve and Robert looked on. Later on, Ed and Cameron fired up the lakester which generated a lot of noise and drew a crowd of people to see what was going on.
