NAE™ Project:
Update Archives

April 29, 2002

Ladies & Gentlemen:

This past weekend Ed, Jon, Mark, & Bill, our newest NAE™ volunteer, were present for our latest work party.

Bill, who works for Boeing at the Everett plant, is helping us with reassembling parts onto our J-79 engine to get it ready for its eventual test run and installation. Jon helped safety wire some of the bolts connecting various parts while Bill stared at the bottom of the engine; currently sitting on a trailer on its back. Once we get it turned over and mounted onto its stand things will look like they're supposed to and go a lot faster; Bill assures us.

While Mark sanded bondo on the wing roots once again, Ed & Jon spent most the day finishing up the panel started by Russ earlier. Most of it involved bucking rivets.

Our remaining projects to finish before taking "the beast" over to Bates Voc. - Tech. in Tacoma for painting will be installing a skirt of skin onto the under side where the nose cone connects to the fueselage and cockpit, as well as completing the double panel on the backbone of the mid-section where we're placing our fuel nozzle filler valve and neck into the fuel tank.

We hope to have these tasks complete within a few weeks, as we are anxious to get the painting process begun. It will be interesting to see if the team goes through withdrawl when there's no work to be done on a Saturday or Sunday for several weeks while "the beast" is being painted.

We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site.
