NAE™ Project:
Update Archives

April 9, 2002

Ladies & Gentlement:

Weekend work parties continue as we had eight volunteers show up this past week.  Don't know if its the word out about free beer or the excitement of getting closer to painting the Russ Garlow graphic design on the car!  Big, big thank you to all of our help for their unending support.

Biggest task completed this weekend was the removal of the front suspension box. Jon Higley coordinated the removal.   It will be shipped to Steve Green later in the week so he can install the components: swing-arm, steering, suspension, wheel and spindle.

Mark Johnson took the first step to completing the wing roots.  He is applying his magic touch to the Kevlar and Graphite skin.  Ed spent a good portion of his time fitting the patch to cover some damage skin  on the right hand inlet duct.  The interior was completed the week prior.  This was the exterior side.

Russ along with Jett (CAP volunteer) completed a interior skin panel located in the forward suspension box.  Jett's mom Ali came along and did some long overdue removal of some paint on either side of the engine inlets.

Organizational Team Change:  Jon Higley will now take over as the team's official Webmaster.

April  6th Weekend Update

Mark Johnson and Jon came out today. Mark is about 75% done with the wing roots.  The right hand inlet patch is complete.  This marks a major milestone.   Ceremonial champagne (actually MGD) was poured over the structure for good luck. This was the last remaining forklift damage that was inflicted on 56-763.   Jon worked on the hydraulic door latches.  Ed began looking at how to re-route the air inlet for the starter.  Russ was out of town at a Civil Air Patrol event in Washington DC.

Bill Burns from Bates Technical College stopped by and they are really exited about doing the paint job on the car.   PPG Finishes  is going to provide the paint. Plans are in the work for a major public unveiling at the highly popular Puyallup Fair this summer.  More to come.

There is some exciting news coming out of New York.  We can't comment on it now, but it will be a really great opportunity.  We'll be sure to let you know in an upcoming update.

We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site.
