NAE™ Project:
Update Archives

April 19, 2000

Ladies & Gentlemen:

rollout

The roll out of the North American Eagle is HERE!!!  Above is one of the first pictures taken of the new vehicle.   Ed Shadle on the left and Keith Zanghi  would, on behalf of the entire North American Eagle™ Team, thank all the volunteers, sponsors and family members who made possible this wonderful occasion. The crew did a remarkable job.

Meeting new people has always been the very best part of this project. This past weekend was no exception. We briefly mention in yesterdays update about freelance journalist Jrgen Knig. He is working on a story on civilian F-104s.  The predominate coverage will be on Starfighters flying throughout the world, but wanted to include our unique story.  Jrgen travels the world writing about people, and we're glad he has now included us in his files.

He brought along with him a couple of photographers who shot nearly 150 rolls of 35 mm film. In addition, Jorgen brought along a friend of his  Wolfgang Czaia. He is  a Captain for American Airlines flying 767s. Wolfgang is a remarkable individual. He flies F-104s for several R & D companies, but also manages to teach a class or two at the Flight Test School at Edwards Air Force Base.  We learned many things from Wolfgang. His explanation of inlet design was very informative and gave us new insight in the design.

In the next few days we will be busy scanning our photos and uploading them to the website. As you can see the F-104 fuselage is a aerodynamic design that looks like it is running 800 mph, even when it is standing still.  In the next few days you will see just how beautiful the car is, and its sheer size.

On the agenda for the next few weeks will be continued repairing of the 43 year old airframe.  We are still planning on applying some sort of paint by the end of the month.  The all important marketing of the project is starting to snowball. Inquiries are coming in from all over the world.

We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site.
