TeamNAE™: Meet Keith Zanghi Keith Zanghi has been with the team since the very beginning. For the last seven years Keith has given the team expert technical assistance in the engineering and design process. As the Director of Operations, he is responsible for the overall running of the car and on-site operations. Lately, he has concentrated on sponsorship recruitment. Keith is employed at the Boeing Airplane Company, as a manager at the Machine Structures: Skin and Spar located in Fredrickson, Washington; just down the street from the NAE™ Race Shop. This division builds wings and stringers for the full line of Boeing Aircraft. In addition, Keith attends Seattle University, where he is earning his undergraduate degree in Mathematics. Keith first became interested in land speed racing at the age of 14 when his father brought him and his brother, Dave, to Craig Breedlove's Spirit of America - Sonic 1. This is the car that set the record in the '60s at 600.601 mph. About this same time, the two brothers began racing motocross. Too young to drive to the races, they built a motorcycle trailer to haul behind the family car. So many people liked it that they began building trailers for the other racers. A year later, still unable to drive, the two became interested in drag racing. Somehow they were successful in talking their mother into driving them to those races. The two brothers found themselves spending more and more time at local dragstrips. They saved their money, and, just before they were to lay the cash down for a front engine B-gas dragster, brother Dave decided to get married! Keith went on to race Top Alcohol Dragsters as shown below. At this time he started his own business building trailers and enclosures for industrial and commercial applications. Many of the trailers ended up in the hands of his fellow drag racers. His race car trailers were of such high quality, that the January '89 issue of Stock Car Racing Magazine featured one of his trailers on the front cover with an eight page story.
On a visit to the Edwards AFB to tour the Rogers Dry Lake Bed, Keith sat in the cockpit of an SR-71. Keith has been at the controls of many different vehicles. Here he is at the An avid skier, scuba diver and holder of a private pilots license, Keith awaits the day the North American Eagle™ speeds its way into history.
