More important than breaking the 763 MPH world land speed record is the ability to bring the 56 foot long North American Eagle™ to a safe stop. To learn more about this critical process, go to our page on deceleration.

The process of deceleration is under the direction of Ed Drumheller II. Like the rest of Team NAE™, Ed brings a lifetime of technical experience to the project. With experience on the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo Space Programs, the technology to stop the NAE™ is more akin to bringing a spacecraft to earth than trying to stop a 350 MPH Top Fuel Dragster.

Here is brief overview of Ed's amazing career.

Ed is an escape system engineer and has worked on ejection seats for the following
aircraft:

Encapsulated Seats, F-106 B seat, F-5 and T-38.

As far as deceleration systems are concerned, he has worked on the following
aircraft drag chute systems:

Ed II was part of the team that designed the venus lander chute.

He was also the engineer in charge of fabricating the driver restraint system for Art Arfons's Green Monster.
