TeamNAE™: Meet Von Armstrong
Von Armstrong is a retired guy who joined Team NAE™ while looking for a new adventure. Daughter Libby, and son-in-law Steve, were well into the project when he came aboard. He was a Fire Direction Center section chief in a 155 mm heavy artillery battalion stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma in the early 1950s. After being honorably discharged he resumed a career in commercial radio broadcasting as an announcer-engineer , working for stations in New Mexico and California. He left the radio business to be sworn in as a Public Safety Officer for the city of Sunnyvale, California. Officers were trained in both police and fire services in the integrated department, working as sworn police officers while assigned to Police Division and working out of a fire house as trained fire fighters when assigned to Fire Division. He rose through the ranks during his nearly 30 years of service, graduated from the 99th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Safety Services from the University of San Francisco. He retired in 1988 as Division Commander, responsible for all fire service activities in the city and served as acting Chief of the Department on occasion. He was an integral member of the City of Sunnyvale Management Team. Von brings a variety of experience to the NAE Team. During his earlier radio broadcasting days he honed his skills in writing, editing, and public relations. Throughout his career in Public Safety, he was involved in virtually every aspect of police and fire services including police patrol, firefighting, training, emergency communications and management. Von helps out wherever he can. Always on hand to lend a hand, this retired public servant is busier then ever. As test runs commence, we'll be calling on Von's expertise to make the project as safe as possible. As the library of video footage becomes available on the net you may hear the radio voice of Von Armstrong. His skills in public relations will be greatly needed in the coming months. We're glad Von Armstrong is a part of the team! Contact: Von Armstrong We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site.
