Clocking in for work this Saturday workday: Ed Shadle, Les Holm, Steve Rima, Andrew Kirk, Von Armstrong, Lars Pedersen, Rich Pengelley, Steve Wallace, Keith Zanghi
Mike, Susan and Dan Zanghi
First visitors to come by today; A cousin of Keith, Dan Zanghi from Pensylvania. Danny was in town to attend a wedding and brought along two of his Notre Dame alumni, Susan and Mike. All played trombones in the Notre Dame Marching Band, and of course played them at the wedding! Knowing that no tour of the Eagle is free, Danny brought an assortment of Hershey products, which Keith moved to his car immediately. If you are thinking of having trombones play at your next wedding, there are still a few open dates.

Staff Writer Alexis Krell from Tacoma News Tribune was here this morning to interview Ed for a feature story on the project. It was good timing as the car was fully assembled in preparation for a sponsor visit this week. Special thanks again to Lisa and Thor Holder from Signs by Tomorrow Houston South for rushing to produce a few decals this week!
Keith has been burning the midnight oil after daylight ended all this past week. The Eagle is undergoing an extensive face lift and a lot of sanding and masking of different areas on the fuselage is necessary. Layers of old paint on the art work has to be sanded down in preparation for the new look to be applied. Fortunately, Team NAE has a renowned artist that has undertaken the art part of that task. It has to be done in stages and should be completed before our trip south to Las Vegas; on display at the SEMA conference during the first week of November.
Fellow Marine Corps brothers, Eddie Harris and Les Holm
Eddie Harris does magic with his brushes, tools, and paints. Formerly with Hanna-Barbera Productions, his work is seen on every thing from airplanes, custom automobiles and hot rods, to a portrait of Ronald Reagan that hung in the White House during his term of office. From canvas to cars, he is THE go to man.
New Jack Points
Our in house master machinist, Lars Pedersen, has been busy taking micrometer measurements of the mid wheel axle components for the past couple of weeks. He finished up machining new bearing sleeves at home, and the midwheels were reinstalled today. The completed jack points have a dual role. In the field with the fully covered rear axles,we had no way to jack the car. Now we do, and we can also demonstrate the amazing LevX® magenetic braking.
Rich knows tools; all about them. Which ones to use and how to use them. He spent the day putting together a take along kit of tools that will be needed in Las Vegas at the SEMA Conference. Steve Wallace was doing much the same with his electrical and data gathering equipment. Von Armstrong will be headed to the court house later this week to change his name to Brandyn. Von can now write the updates on his iPad at the shop.
Les and Andrew were making sure that all the fairings for the rear axle can be installed properly. There is a lot of work involved in putting them together and taking them apart. That has to be done each time the running axle is switched with the loading axle. That axle is much narrower, in order for the car to be ramped up and to be unloaded from the trailer.
Today in Parkland, we had a gully washing down pour with thunder; news reports of a water spout on the south sound, and white fluffy clouds with sunshine on the way home. That’s weather in the Pacific Northwest.
