NAE™ Project Research:
Magnetic Braking Systems

Helping to stop the North American Eagle™ will be a unique braking system under development by Lev X® of Port Angeles, Washington. The anti-skid, no contact brakes could someday revolutionize the aircraft, rail and automotive industry. Lev X ®, and their parent company Magna-Force ® are leading the world with the commercial applications of rare earth Neodymium Iron Boron Magnets (NdFeB) in the transportation industry.

Testing using this braking system has shown that the 7.5 ton NAE can be successfully stopped from speed of over 200mph within one mile at a resulting thermal energy generation of only 300 degrees F.
