NAE™ Project: Update

September 5, 2009

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Another busy day at the hangar as  Bill Eckberg, John Winchester, Von Armstrong, Sam Yellowbird, Chris Greene, Omar Chramosta,  John Drury,  Keith Zanghi and Ed Shadle spent this past weekend working on the North American Eagle™ in preparation for another test session this October in the Black Rock Desert.

Ed worked on replacing the throttle quadrant with a new improved version. Our previous unit  was adapted from another application. This OEM unit will give positive throttle control for Ed and is ergonomically easier to operate.  Bill worked on the installation of new circuit breakers for our four onboard fuel pumps.

Keith lifts out a truss w/ the help of Chris

Von, Chris, Omar, John and Keith made numerous improvements in the trailer by relocating VERY HEAVY side mounting brackets.  The changes will give us about an extra foot of travel for our internal bridge cranes which will make loading a lot easier.

Sam dropped off the undercarriage unit for our new tool pit cart we are building.  In the desert, normal tool boxes sink right into the soft playa surface.  Just like our parts trailers, the large pneumatic tires will enable us to move around easily.  For those who don't know what a pit cart is, it will be very similar to the Snap-on unit above.

During our recent test session at the Black Rock Desert employees at Intel tested their Solid State Drive (SSD) in a number of tests that are exciting and fun to watch!  Here is Episode 1 featuring a SSD being driven over by a passing car.   The car in the video was a BMW driven by some students from Embry-Riddle University in Prescott Arizona.  Look for future episodes featuring the SSD on the North American Eagle™.  Solid State Drives are used on the Eagle because they are not prone to failure from extreme heat, dust and high vibration.

We know a lot of our fans are on facebook.  Now the North American Eagle™ is on facebook as well! In fact many of our team members are also!  Tell your friends! It's fun!

Redding Air Show 2009
For those living in the Northern California area we are tentatively scheduled to have the 56 foot long, 14,000 lb. Eagle on display at the 2009 Redding Air Show.  The show is September 26th and 27th.  More details to come.

Late Summer Test Session
The Eagle is headed back to the Black Rock Desert some time after Labor Day for another series of test runs.  When dates are firmed up we will let you know.

We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site.
