NAE™ Project: Update

September 3 , 2009

Ladies and Gentlemen:

On Saturday, the work party was a little small with only Chris Green, Von Armstrong, Keith and me showing up. We installed the rear axle assembly, reinstalled the windshield and got the NAE ready for the laser mapping that is scheduled to be completed very soon.

On Sunday, however, nearly all the team members showed up and many brought their spouses, girlfriends and kids. This year we held the BBQ at Spanaway Airport. Gary, the owner of Spanaway Airport, loaned the use of the big hanger so we had plenty of room. Geno, Elaine, Rose and several others all teamed up to cook hamburgers, brots, chicken (for Bernard) and hot dogs. Many brought other pot luck dishes so there was plenty to eat.

The mandatory meeting (if you don't listen to the speech, you don't get to eat) was conducted by Keith and me and we had our usual good time with lots of jokes and other foolishness. The coveted 2009 "Velvet Hammer Award" was presented to Steve "The Flame" Wallace. He received the award because of the small fire he created inside the electronics bay of the NAE which is now noticeable by the discolored blemish on the right hand side of the vehicle, right in the middle of the Eagles beak. Next time you see the NAE™, make note of the blemish. Steve can tell you all about it.

Ed's Beechcraft

I brought my Beechcraft Skipper over from it's usual resting place across the field so I could give rides to those who were brave enough to ride with me. When I was to busy with something trivial, John Drury sat in for me and took some folks up too. I think I took about a dozen or more people for rides and John about 4 or 5. It reminded me of Young Eagles Day with the EAA. Some had never been up in a small plane so it was quite fun and exciting.

We had a great turnout and we partied until about 5 PM. We had a very good day.

Redding Air Show 2009
For those living in the Northern California area we are tentatively scheduled to have the 56 foot long, 14,000 lb. Eagle on display at the 2009 Redding Air Show.  The show is September 26th and 27th.  More details to come.

Late Summer Test Session
The Eagle is headed back to the Black Rock Desert some time after Labor Day for another series of test runs.  When dates are firmed up we will let you know.
